12th GRADE GUIDANCE CALENDAR

   EARLY IN THE FALL SEMESTER

  • Make certain that you have a program that will fulfill graduation requirements and/or college entrance.
  • Send for catalogs from colleges and/or technical schools.
  • Use Career Center resources to become familiar with career choices.
  • Arrange for a conference with your counselor to review progress toward graduation, college plans and entrance career choice.
  • Check in the Career Center each month for scholarship information.

September

  • Request program changes, if necessary during the second and third week of school
  • Check your graduation status to be sure you will satisfy all required courses, credits and exit exam.
  • Invite your parents to attend Back-to-School Night.
  • Register for the October SAT/ACT by September deadline (if needed).

  • Return Senior Information Sheet or Resume to your counselor
  • Begin researching and applying for scholarships. The career center has a list of websites to get you started.

October

  • Receive Progress Reports mailed halfway through the first quarter.
  • Begin viewing on-line applications for UC’s and CSU’s at www.ucop.edu/pathways/   or www.csumentor.edu .
  • Register for the December SAT/ACT by the October deadline (if needed).
  • Check into private college or technical school application process.

  • Have parents attend conferences the week of October 8th.
  • Begin working on personal statement for UC.
  • Request letters of recommendation from teachers for private colleges and scholarships.  Contact teachers with your request at least one month before letters are due.  Give them the necessary forms with a stamped envelope. Include a copy of your resume or student information packet.  The above applies to counselor reports required by private colleges as well.

November

  • Receive your first quarter grades mailed November 2nd.
  • Begin on-line application to UC and CSU.  Window opens Nov. 1.
  • Register for the December SAT/ACT by the November deadline.  This is the last opportunity to take these tests for fall 2008 admissions.

 

December

  • Receive progress reports mailed halfway through second quarter.
  • Get a PIN at www.fafsa.ed.gov/  so you’re ready for the FAFSA in January.  Beat the rush!!!
  • See your counselor if you still have concerns about meeting high school graduation or college entrance requirements.
  • Attend orientation for Solano Community College if interested.

January

  • Make necessary changes for spring semester.
  • Take first semester exams, January 16, 17, 18.
  • Fill out the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Window opens Jan. 1.
  • Start Semester two classes January 22.

February

  • Check your graduation status with your first semester grades and credits to make sure you are signed up for the proper classes.
  • Check that your FAFSA and Cal Grant application forms have been properly filed before the March 1 deadline.
  • Receive progress reports mailed halfway through third quarter.

March

  • Take assessment tests for Solano Community College if necessary.
  • Sign up for Advanced Placement exams you wish to take in May.  The deadline for registration and ordering the exams is in March.  For more information, see your AP teacher.
  • Apply for local scholarships with one application.  Pick it up in the career center.

April

  • Receive third quarter grades mailed April 4.
  • Listen for graduation information in the bulletin.

May

  • Receive progress reports mailed home halfway through fourth quarter.
  • Complete Post High School survey and return to the counseling office.
  • Notify counseling office of any honors or scholarships that you have received so they can be included in the awards assembly.
  • Take Advanced Placement Examinations if you registered in March.  The test will be administered the first two weeks in May.

June

  •  Request a copy of your final transcript to be sent to the 4 year college you will be attending.
